Paper collage depicting a Mexican jail scene. The base image had a dirty yellow wall filled with graffiti behind the seated men.
Lisa Wines: "I wanted to fill that wall and the whole collage with images of rich Mexican culture to support these men in jail - ancient history, colorful architecture, carved stone gods and the turquoise snake representing the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl. The habit of snakes to shed their skin each year represents renewal and transformation. The men looked so despondent that I wanted to surround them with the strength, vitality and beauty of their own culture to assure them that they are not alone."
